The Bowerbirds

A new band I've been enjoying...

I found them through Tiny Desk Series by All Songs Considered. I honestly don't know what I would do without NPR.

Food Inc.

I should have seen the movie a long time ago, but Tim and I finally saw it in DVD last night. It definitely renewed my efforts to pay more attention to what I'm eating. Tim and I are pretty picky in general. We don't eat too much processed food, we avoid high frutose corn syrup, and we love our veggies. However, the film reminded me about my meat consumption. Today, I'm picking up some grass fed beef from a local farmer. I've had some before, but I'd like to start eating farm raised beef on a more regular basis. Otherwise, Tim and I will just have to rely on our veggies. It amazes me that mose people eat meat every day.

I think the freakiest part of the movie was when it discussed the laws that have been written to prevent independent farmers from continuing to farm independently. Even we live across the road from a huge dairy farm operation. When they spread chemicals and fertilizers on the fields, it blows right over to our yard. We can't even drink our well water because we're concerned about the chemicals coming up from the soil.

How do you feel about this situation? What have you done to take control over your food?

Handmade Pretty - Three

Handmade Pretty 3

Recently, I stumbled upon a very cute website called Magpie Patterns, that sells patterns from independent designers. I'm seriously thinking about scooping up the schoolhouse tunic pattern. Although I'm still working on my sewing skills, I fee like it is something I might be able to manage. I could see making this in several different colors...

Sesame Street - 40 Years? - Wow.

The fact that Sesame Street is celebrating their fortieth anniversary just makes me feel, well old. The TV I grew up watching was a combination of Sesame Street, Mr. Rogers, and Reading Rainbow. However, this clip from their new season reminded me that they always tried to include something for the adults in all of their episodes. This one is really cute.:)

A Cozy Kitchen

I'm thinking I might have to start a collection of handmade tea towels. I love these ones by flowerpress (1). I've also been enjoying the collecting capabilities of postroadvintage (2,3, and 4). She has such an ability to search out the good stuff.

Kitchen Pretties

Photobucket

In my everlasting quest to redo my kitchen (ugly green marble countertops, you must go!), I happened upon this pretty photo from the kitchen of Erin Heath. Her place was featured on designsponge. Pictures like this keep me motivated to finish the five hundred projects we have going on around here. I can't wait to show you all the house once I am pleased with the results. As they say, it's a work in progress.
